Next Year’s MacBook Pro Finally Gets a Touchscreen — with OLED Display Upgrade

Apple’s next major MacBook Pro redesign might finally introduce OLED displays and touchscreen support, breaking a decade-long design philosophy.

    Apple’s Biggest MacBook Shift Yet

The MacBook Pro hasn’t changed much visually in recent years — even the latest M5 models focused more on performance than design. But the next refresh, expected in late 2026 or early 2027, could be Apple’s most dramatic update in years.

According to multiple reports, Apple is preparing a full overhaul with an OLED display, touchscreen support, and a lighter, thinner chassis. These upgrades would mark the first time a MacBook integrates touch input directly into its display, something Apple has avoided for over a decade.

The switch to OLED is a big deal. It promises deeper blacks, richer colors, and thinner panels compared to the current mini-LED screens. On top of that, Apple is reportedly working on reinforced hinges to prevent screen wobble when touched, and a hole-punch camera design to replace the notch. The new models are also expected to run on Apple’s M6 chip series, bringing both power and efficiency improvements.

OLED panels at laptop scale are difficult to mass-produce, which has reportedly pushed Apple’s plans back a year. Manufacturing partners like Samsung and LG Display are believed to be fine-tuning production to meet Apple’s quality standards.

Touchscreens also raise design and ergonomic challenges. Apple has long argued that vertical touch interfaces cause fatigue, so engineers are testing mechanisms to improve display stability during use. Whether macOS itself will be optimized for touch gestures is still unclear, but sources suggest Apple may introduce limited touch functionality at first — think scrolling, zooming, and drawing.

    What It Means for Buyers

If you’ve been holding off for a true MacBook redesign, the OLED + touchscreen model could finally deliver it. It’s likely to launch as a premium option — possibly a few hundred dollars more than today’s 14- and 16-inch Pro models.

For professionals, creatives, and anyone who splits time between a Mac and an iPad, this update could be a dream setup — merging both experiences into one device. But if you prefer a proven, stable workhorse, the current MacBook Pro lineup with M5 chips remains a safe bet for the next couple of years.

    The Bottom Line

Apple’s rumored OLED MacBook Pro marks more than a spec upgrade — it’s a philosophical shift. After years of resisting touchscreens, the company seems ready to blur the line between Mac and iPad. If the reports are accurate, 2026 could finally be the year Apple’s laptops get the modern display and interactivity users have been asking for.
