1. Overview & Core Purpose

Bous is an entertainment catalog and metadata discovery companion for web browsers. It overlays rich movie and series details, multi-source ratings, cast/crew info, and episode guides onto your favorite entertainment sites. Additionally, Bous enables users to export their curated catalog selections into standard playlist files (XSPF) for direct playback in their preferred local media players such as VLC Media Player.

2. Detailed Permissions Justification

To provide a seamless discovery and export experience without compromising your security, Bous requests only the exact browser permissions required by its functionality:

Playlist Export & Media Player Launching: When you choose to play or export a title, Bous generates a standard XML Shareable Playlist Format (.xspf) file locally in memory and saves it to your downloads. The downloads.open permission allows Bous to automatically hand this playlist file off to your system's default media player (e.g., VLC Media Player) without requiring manual double-clicking. The downloads.ui permission is used to suppress unnecessary download shelf notifications during this transient export process so your browsing experience remains smooth and uninterrupted.

Local Settings & Addon Configuration: Used exclusively via chrome.storage.local to save your UI preferences, theme customizations, and user-provided catalog/addon endpoints directly on your local device.

On-Demand Sidebar Injection: Grants Bous permission to inject the catalog discovery sidebar and overlay stylesheet onto the active webpage only when triggered by clicking the extension icon or interactive page button.

Universal Catalog Discovery & Dynamic APIs: Required so users can launch the Bous discovery dashboard from any website, and so the extension can securely fetch metadata, episode summaries, and thumbnails from public metadata providers (e.g., Cinemeta, TMDB, TVMaze) and user-configured external endpoints without encountering cross-origin (CORS) browser restrictions.

3. Data Storage & No Tracking Guarantee

No Personal Data Collected: Bous does not collect, store, share, or sell any personally identifiable information (PII), browsing history, search queries, or analytics.
100% Local Processing: All preferences, cached metadata, and custom endpoints reside exclusively in your browser's local sandbox (chrome.storage.local).
No Third-Party Servers: Bous does not operate any proprietary backend servers. All network requests are made directly from your browser to the respective public metadata APIs or your designated catalog services.
